AECB and Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT) – Visit to Bolton University

AECB Chair Peter Wilkinson spent an afternoon at Bolton University on Tuesday 29th April 2014, advising a group of Architectural Technologist students on technical detail and sustainability.  The invitation was a result of continuing fostering of relations between the AECB and the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT) who are judging the students work and contributing feed-back to students.

The students were busy preparing their final project work for a new University Campus building on a site in Bolton.  Peter was asked to critique numerous technical points on insulation, moisture and vapour control, green roofs and renewable technologies.  A lively discussion erupted on the pros and cons of natural materials verses man-made materials.

Peter gave a brief introduction on the AECB and its sister organisation the Passivhaus Trust and the work that each organisation is involved with.  Also discussed were the virtues of low energy buildings in general and the AECB Silver Standard, the AECB’s Water Standard and Passivhaus Standard.  Peter has been asked back to the student’s presentation event to be held in June.
