9 Clarendon Place, Leamington Spa

Architect: Richard S Baily

Description: Grade II listed Regency property, most recently in use as offices now converted to thirteen high-end apartments.  The brief was to achieve a low energy status through insulation, airtightness and mechanical ventilation with heat recovery.  To avoid interstitial condensation which usually besets the upgrade of masonry wall with internal insulation, Diathonite, an insulant with special moisture handling properties was used.

Services provided: Steven undertook fabric survey, U-value calculations and specification for the fabric upgrade avoiding interstitial condensation.

Working for: Encraft

Garrick Theatre, Lichfield

Architect: Short and Associates Architects

Description: The Garrick Theatre is one in a series of innovative naturally ventilated public buildings designed by Short and Associates Architects.  The management was interested in further reducing the energy consumption of this A rated building and solving some of the temperature control problems associated with the updraught natural ventilation design.

Services provided: Steven undertook a site survey, obtained detailed energy consumption data, analysed this data, put together a report based on observation of defects and options for reprogramming the building management control system to fine tune the effectiveness of the natural ventilation control.
