Edinburgh Science’s Climate Co-Lab Series

Responsible Business for an Environmentally Sustainable & Just Future

Part of Edinburgh Science’s Climate Co-Lab Series

Save the Date: Wed 14 Jun 2023, 2.30–6.30pm (5pm for networking and drinks)
Venue: Scotland House, 58 Victoria Embankment, Temple, London EC4Y 0DS

If we are to reach the critical goal of an environmentally sustainable, just, and net zero future, every business must take radical steps to ensure that they are operating responsibly. This involves moving away from environmentally destructive practices; embedding climate justice throughout entire value chains; supporting projects with a positive impact on society; and acting with integrity (avoiding what is perceived as greenwashing). This Climate Co-Lab will focus on the actions that willing businesses can take to become more responsible and discuss how we can encourage corporations that may be less convinced to join us on this journey.

We will explore
• The importance and benefit of operating within a responsible and sustainable business
model
• The instruments which can be used to guide responsible and sustainable business practices,
including:
The critical role that financiers play in encouraging responsible business through the funding they can offer
Ways in which policy can be utilised as a lever to support businesses to make decisions which are environmentally sustainable and just.

If you have a specific idea relating to any of the above points, we invite you to submit it with your RSVP to emily.stone@scifest.co.uk so that the event Chair can ensure you are given the
opportunity to share it with other participants during the Co-Lab.

Outcomes
This event will help participants to:
• Develop a deeper understanding of the business benefits of responsible operational practices and identify what practices to implement them in their own organisations
• Use their position to influence and incentivise other organisations to be responsible
• Identify which UK government policies could be leveraged to discourage or rule out environmentally-destructive practices.

Every delegate will leave this discussion energised, motivated and with new connections who can
help them accelerate positive change.
