OPPORTUNITY: Hafodty Low Carbon Building Project

Introduction.

Looking for that sustainable and energy efficient building project, with a difference? Here’s an opportunity, a unique location and the potential to create an exemplar, showcase scheme.  There is an extensive range of stone outbuilding with the potential to create an artist’s studio or visitor’s accommodation high in the Welsh uplands. A project opportunity that would be of interest to those that subscribe to the AECB ethos.

Property description.

The property it’s located in the Berwyn uplands, North Wales. It’s a smallholding consisting of a former farmhouse with four beds, extensive outbuildings that have the potential for conversion and 7 acres of land, part pasture and woodland. At 450 metres, 1500 feet the property is one of the highest properties in Wales.

Background.

For many years, and no doubt something I share with others, I’ve had an aspiration to undertake my own energy efficient building project that could be presented as an exemplar. This was nearly realised in 2007 when funding was secured from the Energy Saving Trust for a project in North Wales. The timing was not the best and despite a start had to be abandoned at the time because of the 2008 global crash.

The project was mothballed for better economic times but in the event circumstances now mean that I will not be taking the project forward and would like to share this with a like minded person who might be interested in an opportunity like this. I’m now looking to bring the property to market.
