Welcome to Duncan Smith, AECB Operations and External Affairs Director

Duncan Smith joins the AECB this month in the new role of AECB Operations and External Affairs Director (OEAD) to support the development and growth serving as PHT External Affairs Director.

Duncan has over 30 years’ experience in the construction and energy industries and has worked internationally in public and private sector built environment roles. He is a member of the Scottish Government Zero Emissions Social Housing Taskforce (ZEST) and a member of the working group of the Energy Efficiency Standard for Social Housing (EESSH). He played a key role in the United Nations Economic Council for Europe (UNECE) Thought Leaders Group at COP26.
Duncan says: “We are at a pivotal moment in how we decarbonise housing and the built environment. The AECB can play a prominent role across all sectors of housing –  public and private. Our members can play a significant role in designing and delivering solutions to reduce the demand for energy in our homes.”

Duncan is a regular contributor to Scottish Housing News. In his latest article he identifies that delivering sustainable social housing means more than carbon reduction. It needs to address climate change, ensure a just transition, move to Net Zero, and more than anything else, resolve the retrofit conundrum.
