Intermediate Session 1 – Areas Tab and Addl Vent Tab:

This is the first of more intermediate level PHPP sessions to come!

In this first session we will build on our initial PHPP beginners course, to take a more in depth, intermediate level look at the following aspects of the Areas and Addl Vent tabs:

Areas Tab: Dimensions using the actual thickness of your roof, floor and walls from your U-values

Areas Tab: Working out the area of a sloping roof by formula

Areas Tab: Entering pre-calculated thermal bridges and 2 resources for this

Addl Vent Tab: Designing for multiple dwellings or larger buildings with multiple units

  • Learn how to approach thermal bridges in PHPP, in the Areas tab.
  • Explore designing for multiple dwellings or larger buildings, starting with Additional Ventilation, using the Addl Vent tab.
  • Building design professionals who previously attended an AECB PHPP course or an industry CPD on PHPP may value the opportunity to deepen your knowledge and increase confidence and capability when approaching more complex projects in PHPP.
  • Compliments the Certified Passivhaus Designer course for a deeper, more technical understanding of the PHPP design process.
  • Live, online, interactive teaching, with lots of opportunity to use the software and ask questions, with in class exercises to follow along with and receive feedback.
  • PHPP v10.6 is recommended to get the most out of the course (the software is not included in the course price and must be purchased separately). However, it is also possible to use earlier versions of v10.x, there may be some small differences. Anyone using version 9.x should upgrade as we will be covering the whole window approach used in v10.

 

This is the first of more sessions to come that start to take a deeper, technical look at some of the PHPP tabs and how to apply them to more complex projects.

  • This session will eventually become part of a full intermediate level PHPP course of 3-4 sessions plus a practice project.

This will help build practical know how in modelling thermal bridges in PHPP, in the Areas tab, and begin to grow your knowledge and confidence in designing for multiple dwellings or larger buildings, starting with the Addl Vent tab.

The Course Tutor & PHPP Add-on Developer - Tim Martel

Tim Martel has worked as a Chartered Architectural Technologist and Passivhaus Designer, he is a Retrofit Coordinator with a background in calculations through commercial R&D. Tim is an expert in PHPP energy calculations for new and retrofit projects, embodied CO₂ and PAS 2035 calculations, software and moisture issues.

Tim is author of the AECB PHribbon software used with PHPP, and a standalone embodied CO₂ calculator.

Tim has also helped develop our AECB CarbonLite™ Retrofit Foundation course and Coordination course, and has experience of delivering tutoring via our AECB webinars, our Whole Life Carbon Assessment course and Certifier CPD programme.

Having been an important part of the AECB Experts group for many years, Tim is expert advisor on the AECB CarbonLite™ New Build and Retrofit Standards and is also now the Programme Manager of the AECB Approved Certification Group.
