Having spent 20 years as an architect, working on solid walled buildings of traditional construction, I became increasingly unsure about established practice to insulate them. During my postgraduate work at the Centre for Alternative technology, I focused on this and concluded that it should be routine to include sensors to monitor performance and pick up on condensation before it turns into damp. My startup company wallconserve has made a prototype electronic probe as well as an analogue system which I am happy to offer free.
