I provide retrofit design and advice for older and traditional buildings, combining historic conservation knowledge with practical building experience and building physics. I work mainly for homeowners and I’m also able to support architects and other professionals. I’m particularly interested in pre-1919 solid-wall houses, where the challenges of improving comfort and energy performance need to be considered alongside the way an existing building manages moisture. My approach is to understand the building first, repair where necessary, then develop proportionate retrofit measures that are technically robust and appropriate to the building. I have an MSc in historic conservation from Oxford Brookes and spent several years managing a large Grade I-listed building. I also have practical experience in repair, maintenance and refurbishment. My services include retrofit assessment and design, PHPP energy modelling, thermal bridge analysis, moisture-aware retrofit strategies, conservation-led design and phased retrofit plans.
