YAM Architects is an RIBA-chartered architectural practice established in May 2020, and we are based in Penrith town centre. The name ‘YAM’ means ‘home’ in the Cumbrian dialect, a reflection of both our roots and our design ethos. We are committed to creating architecture that is grounded in place, responsive to local communities, and built to last. Our team brings experience across residential, commercial, and community sectors. We have successfully delivered a wide range of projects in rural and village settings, often navigating the unique challenges of conservation areas, local authority planning, and complex stakeholder needs. Our approach blends contextual sensitivity with contemporary design, resulting in buildings that are functional, welcoming, and architecturally distinctive. We take pride in offering a highly personal, hands-on service. As a small, dedicated practice, we maintain close involvement at every stage of a project, from early briefing and concept design to technical delivery and construction oversight. We work closely with clients, consultants, and local contractors to ensure each project is tailored, achievable, and rooted in its setting.
