Bio

I'm a fully qualified Architect based in Bristol specialising in low energy homes and community projects having set up my own practice in 2018.  I've been passionate about the environment since I was a teenager and started learning about eco construction and building physics back in 1995 at Nottingham University.  I spent much of my student years also volunteering on eco-builds around the UK and became particularly fascinated with Earthships around 1999.  This led to becoming a founder member / director of the Low Carbon Trust and work on the design and construction of Earthship Brighton - the first in England.  I then worked at ZEDfactory with Bill Dunster for 12 years where I worked on a range of bigger projects in the UK and further afield and gained extensive experience of delivering zero carbon projects.  I have a particular passion for community led development and my first completed project as a solo practitioner was a new-build zero carbon project for a housing co-op in Bristol.

Phillip St - Somewhere housing Co-op, Bristol

Completed in 2019 this was TL Architctures first full commission.  Built for Somewhere housing co-op the building has 3 x 1 bedroom flats plus communal areas and facilities.  The design follows Passive House principles with a superinsulated timber frame structure triple glazing MVHR and a solar assisted heat pump.  The homes are grid connected but the large roof-integrated PV array generates more power over the course of a year than the residents consume to meet their heating lighting and other power requirements.
