A passionate, climate literate Certified Passive House Designer at Spring Design of Merthyr Mawr, I possess a wealth of experience in RIBA Stages 1-6 throughout the domestic sector. Extensions, refurbishments and retrofits feature in my portfolio alongside new builds, each design informed by fabric first principles to achieve maximum energy efficiency and lower operational carbon emissions.In addition to conventional masonry and timber frame builds I have experience developing and detailing designs that capitalise on the opportunities presented by innovative MMOC. Embodied energy has been substantially reduced in dwellings constructed of open-panel timber frame, mass timber (Honka) and straw-filled SIPs (EcoCocon).I am committed to continuing this exploration of carbon conscious construction and have pursued opportunities to augment my education with hands-on courses through the Architecture Association, Centre for Alternative Technology, Dorset Centre for Rural Skills and Studio in the Woods. Engagement with natural materials ultimately led to my being a founder member of SBUK (Straw-bale Building UK) and frequent collaborator with Phil Christopher of Huff and Puff Construction.
