In this informative webinar, architects Jarek and Claire from Smith Scott Mullan Associates will present an account of their practice’s transformative journey. They will discuss the progression from a traditional architectural practice to one capable of successfully working on multiple Passive House projects. Jarek and Claire will share valuable insights, reflecting on the challenges and opportunities encountered during this evolution, including new relationships, processes, and documents. Speakers: 

Jarek Gasiorek 

Jarek is an Architect, a certified Passive House designer, and an Associate at the Edinburgh-based Smith Scott Mullan Associates, a practice leading sustainable design in Scotland. He is a dedicated advocate for sustainable architecture and Passive House methodology. He has led teams in completing a diverse range of projects, covering all stages of conservation, retrofit, and new build projects, emphasising Passive House and low embodied carbon processes and solutions. Within Smith Scott Mullan, he is one of the leaders of the transition to widely understood sustainable design. He actively develops the industry’s capacity to deliver sustainable designs through influencing, internal and external upskilling, training, and consultancy. Jarek is an AECB Trustee.

Claire Cockburn 

Claire is a certified Passive House Designer and a Senior Architect at Smith Scott Mullan Associates. Claire is strongly involved in the sustainable design activities of the company, with a particular focus on conservation and Passive House methodology. She is the Project Architect for the Burnbrae Road and Buccleuch Street Passive House projects for Midlothian Council. These projects were the beginning of her Passive House experience, and led to her gaining her Passive House Designer certification, which greatly assisted her with managing the projects from inception through to completion.
